Outfit Inspiration for Fall Family Photos

Fall is the perfect time to capture those annual family photos, but choosing what to wear is the hardest part. I know it’s the part that I personally dread the most when planning my own family session. So I’ve gathered some outfit inspiration from past family sessions along with tips to help you dress your best!

Choosing Colors

When choosing colors, warm neutrals like cream, champagne, taupe or gray look great. If you’d like to incorporate color, choose sophisticated jewel-tones like crimson or burgundy, mustard, sage or emerald and navy. I LOVE jewel tones because they photograph so beautifully, especially for a fall session.

Coordinating Family Looks

The goal for coordinating family outfits is to break up the colors and shades so you’re not all wearing the same color. The more you mix it up the better! As you plan, aim for each person to have a “dominant” color and then tie in accent colors. For men, adding a sweater, blazer or jacket is a great way to bring extra dimension to your images. Layering looks great on camera. For women, accessorize with a necklace, earring, hat or scarf. Choose one or two so they don’t compete for attentions when paired together.

I hope this helps you as you prepare for your upcoming session this fall. Below are a few more outfit inspiration from past clients. Style choices definitely enhance your photos, but remember THE most important thing to bring is JOY! Have fun together and that will shine through in your photos.
